Govee Permanent Outdoor Lights are truly awe-inspiring, far beyond the capabilities of your average holiday light. Expandable up to 150 feet, versatile and app-controlled, these year-round lights offer stunning brightness and a huge array of ready-made and music-reactive scenes, as well as the ability to create your own custom patterns.
Although they may be more expensive than your average fairy lights, the longevity and advanced features make them a worthwhile investment. And just think of the time savings you’ll get from never putting up Christmas lights again!
The Govee Permanent Outdoor Lights are awe-inspiring. Govee has come up with some pretty eye-catching products over the years, but these are on another level. Govee has gone from a haphazard little start trying to take the smart lighting market away from the existing Philips Hue with cheap LED strips, to completely dominating it with a range of innovative products.

Pricing and Package Contents
The largest pack currently sold by Govi covers up to 100 feet or 30 meters. They’ll retail for around $300 each (though they’re on sale for $254 for the next three days only, so hurry!). That sounds like a lot, but it sits at around $3 per foot, and for an IP67 weather-resistant permanent lighting solution, it’s really cool.
Inside each 100-foot pack, you’ll find a long power adapter, an extension cable, and six strands of LEDs, each measuring 16.4 feet (5 meters). The extension cable can be inserted into any breakpoint as needed, for example, if you want to cover your terrace and then descend to the ground floor without lights in between. If you don’t want to use the full 100 feet, you can skip a section or two (which can extend the second set later, though they won’t work on their own).
However, these are still in 5m sections so they are unsuitable for small window frames or for going around precise lengths; You can’t cut them in the middle.
You can extend one set to a total of 150 feet by purchasing extra packs in 5m/16.4ft lengths or using leftover parts from another set. Currently each extension costs $50.
installation
It is easy to separate and connect these wires. Simply open the waterproof cap and insert the plug. No worries about polarity, as you can only connect them one way. On the other hand, make sure you connect the light wires before installing and testing them. Otherwise you may find that you put them in the wrong way.
Of course, the difficulty of your installation will vary according to the layout of your home. We needed two complete kits to completely cover the roof of our house. As everyone knows, the best time to apply lighting is when climbing the ladder in the dark of night, when the lights are on and there is no glare. So I did that and took the easy way out first. Guys, don’t do this at home.
Our house is built on a hill, so while the side of the street is easy to reach by hand, the house in the back is two stories high. I thought this was a great justification for buying a scaffolding tower. Then I realized that I have a great fear of heights more than a few meters, so I sent my wife to finish the job on a higher peak.
Govi permanent outdoor lights are very easy to install; Peel off the sticky pad on each LED and push in for a few seconds. You can use some cable clips on either side if needed (alternatively these can be screwed on). If one gets stuck, replacement pads are included.
Each LED module is quite large: about a centimeter deep and 3cm square, with a clear dome where the LED is. Ideally, you want them to be facing down and an inch or three away from the wall, but in my case, that wasn’t possible because we don’t have much overhang other than the fascia board.
The only complicated part is figuring out how to power them. Of course, they need an AC socket, and in my case, the house isn’t easy to get into except through the roof. I eventually had to cut a bit off the fascia as they weren’t wide enough to fit the entire diameter of the connector plug – its diameter is about a centimeter.
Once you’re there, there’s a fair amount of cables and a physical controller on the other side. You can use it to power on and off, or rely on a mobile app.
visual quality and brightness
In terms of visual quality, Govi permanent lights have a certain size. They don’t wash down the light directly, but instead feature a distinctive triangular profile closer to that of an LED.
